Yoko Asakawa, Dr

About

Yoko is a General Paediatrician who graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2009 and went on to complete her paediatric training through the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. She currently works at Sunshine Hospital co-leading and developing the paediatric immunisation service, as well as seeing children with developmental and behavioural concerns and general paediatric issues. She is also passionate about her role teaching medical students at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Yoko enjoys the variety of work she sees as a general paediatrician, looking after children from birth to 18 years with a range of medical, behavioural, and developmental difficulties. She sees children with health issues such as asthma, eczema, wetting, constipation, slow growth, and sleep difficulties, as well as unsettled or ex-premature babies. Yoko also has skills in diagnosing and managing developmental delay, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), speech and language delay, learning difficulties, anxiety, and aggressive behaviour. Her special interest lies in working with families of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Yoko is passionate about understanding each individual child within the context of their family. She believes that providing quality care means working collaboratively together with the child and their family, as part of a team that includes educators and other health professionals to achieve the best outcome. Yoko is also a mum and enjoys getting outdoors for walks, going to music concerts, and the roller coaster ride that is parenthood.
